According to Mercedes-Benz, the 2015 AMG GT will feature the M178 engine. We are talking about a twin-turbo V8 4.0 liter unit rated at 510 horsepower at 6,250 rpm and 650 Nm peak of torque between 1,750 and 4,750 rpm. The new engine is Euro 6 compliant and has a dry weight of 209 kilograms.
The M178 engine has lightweight pistons, twin overhead camshafts and flow-optimized cylinder heads made from zirconium alloy for optimal temperature and thermal conductivity.
In additions, the cylinder walls have been lined with nano-slide coating in order to minimize friction losses.
Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz has announced that the new M178 engine will be fitted under the bonnet of the upcoming C63 AMG model.
