Porsche boss Matthias Muller has revealed plans for a four-cylinder engine to power the next generation Boxster and Cayman.
“We will continue with the downsizing strategy”, said Muller in an interview given to Auto Motor und Sport. He added that the engine will be able to deliver up to 400 horsepower but that figure will probably be applicable only for the range-topping GTS version.
Porsche Macan will feature a 4-cylinder engine
We should mention that Porsche has already confirmed that the Macan will get a four-cylinder gasoline engine sometime in 2014. Furthermore, the Stuttgart based car manufacturer has also developed a special turbocharged V4 unit which powers the 919 Hybrid.
As a reminder, last time when Porsche used a four cylinder engine was in 1995 when the 968 was discontinued.
