Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard has VR10 protection

Daimler has officially unveiled the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard. This is the first passenger car to offer a VR10 ballistic protection level. The new Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard might look like a regular S600 Maybach but underneath the familiar body is a heavily modified car.

According to Daimler, the new Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard can stand in front of hardened steel core bullets coming from an assault rifle. And this is impressive. In order to achieve this performance, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard has received special aramid and PE components along with polycarbonate coating for the windows. More than that, if an explosion occurs at the side of the car the armoring protects the people inside the cabin as effectively as it does in an assault with explosives beneath the car.

In order to boost protection, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard also features intelligent overlapping systems at certain critical points, like the material transitions and interstices. The VR10 certificate was granted by the guys from Ballistics Authority in Ulm. Another important fact is the ERV 2010 rating (Explosive Resistant Vehicles).
