Kia South Korea has published a couple of teaser pictures with the upcoming 2016 Kia Niro crossover. The hybrid model is set to be launched in the first half of 2016.
As you may have read, this model was already previewed by a namesake concept back in 2013 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
2016 Kia Niro – Engine
As we suspected, the production version 2016 Kia Niro will have the same hardware arrangement as Hyundai’s Prius fighter. We are talking about a 1.6 liter naturally aspirated engine matted to an electric motor, a six-speed dual clutch transmission and a modest 1.56 kWh battery pack.
According to Kia, the combustion engine will have a thermal efficiency of 40% and it will be able to deliver 105 PS (77 kW) and 147 Nm (108 lb-ft). The hybrid will also receive a plug-in hybrid version later on during its life cycle.
2016 Kia Niro – Design
The new 2016 Kia Niro will feature a five-door layout and will also deliver a larger footprint. As we already know, the design sketches don’t tell the whole truth but we expect a sleek model with a low roofline and a special roof spoiler.
The rear end of the car comes with aluminum underbody protection while the body panels have been aerodynamically optimized to boost efficiency.
According to the South Korean car manufacturer, the 2016 Kia Niro will be a global model and is programed to go on sale in the first half of 2016.
