Nissan Leaf owner jailed for stealing 5 cents worth of electricity

Kaveth Kamooneh owns a Nissan Leaf. One day he entered Chamblee Middle School to recharge his electric car but a “hero” called the police and reported him. According to Jalopnik, the Police rushed to the scene and informed Kamooneh that he would be charged with theft for stealing approximately 5 cents worth of electricity.

Several days after the incident, two deputies took Kamooneh into custody for “theft by taking without consent.” After that, the Nissan Leaf owner was jailed for more than 15 hours for his 20 minute recharging session.

“He broke the law. He stole something that wasn’t his. A theft is a theft”, Sergeant Ernesto Ford told the local NBC affiliate.
