As you may know, full-size pick-up trucks aren’t the most fuel-efficient cars in the world. But Ford thinks it can do better on the F-150. According to the Blue Oval officials, the 2017 Ford F-150 will be available with a start – stop system only on the EcoBoost engines.
They are talking about the trucks equipped with the 2.7 and 3.5 liter EcoBoost units (including the mighty Raptor) will feature this system. As you may have read it shuts off the engine when the vehicle is at a stop in order to reduce the fuel consumption. As you can simply imagine, this system was specially developed for this truck and won’t kill the engine when the truck is in towing or four-wheel drive mode.
For now, the Ford officials have declined to say how much fuel will save this system because it is highly dependent on driving patters. As a result of the lower fuel consumption, the car will emit less CO2 in the atmosphere.
According to a report, the popularity of EcoBoost engines is soaring. Ford estimates that more than 60 percent of its truck lineup could have a start/stop system thanks to the decision to make the fuel saving system standard equipment.
