Chevrolet unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, a Performance Data Recorder system which will be available on the 2015 MY Corvette Stingray.
The system was co-developed with Cosworth and features a 720p high-definition camera mounted in the windshield header, a cabin microphone and a GPS receiver. According to Chevrolet, the latter can track the Corvette Stingray’s location five times faster than a regular navigation system.
The Performance Data Recorder system allows drivers to record their actions behind the wheel of the Stingray. It also offers the possibility of overlaying the footage with telemetry data. All the info can be saved on the 8 GB or 32 GB SD card installed in the glove box department.
The drivers can then review the footage on the Corvette Stingray’s eight inch dashboard display or load it onto the computer to share with others. Also, the data can be analyzed with the Cosworth Toolbox software.
“The Performance Data Recorder combines the ability to record and share drive videos with the power of a professional-level motorsports telemetry system. Drivers can easily record and share their experiences driving down the Tail of the Dragon or lapping Road Atlanta. In addition, with the included telemetry software users can analyze their laps in incredible detail, and find opportunities to improve their driving and lap times”, said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer.
The all-new Performance Data Recorder system will be available starting later this year. Here are a couple of videos with the new high-tech system.
