A 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray modified by Hennessey managed to reach a top speed of 200.6 mph. The attempt took place on a closed section of the E segment of the Texas State Highway 99 located west of Houston and known as the Grand Parkway.

“The road is perfectly smooth and the Corvette was very stable and easy to drive at 200 mph,” said driver and company founder John Hennessey. “I’d put the Texas highway system up against any other highway in the world, including the German Autobahn. Our roads have proven to be smooth and safe at speeds well above 200 mph. Of course, under normal driving situations, drivers should observe speed limits that have been determined to be safe for travel on the road.”

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was fitted with the HPE600 package. It includes high-flow catalysts, ported factory cylinder heads, custom camshaft, long-tube headers and a Nitrous Express nitrous oxide system.

As a result, the 6.2 liter V8 engine delivers 700 horsepower at 6.500 rpm. Under these conditions, the top speed has been increased from 180 mph to 200 mph. According to Hennessey officials, this performance will be soon available with the HPE700 kit which doesn’t use a nitrous system.

In order to achieve that amount of power, Hennessey will use a TVS2300 supercharger and an air induction system. Furthermore, the engine department will get a custom camshaft, long-tube headers and high-flow heads. All these modifications will be offered for $22,500.
